Vet Techs are critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practices and play vital roles in preserving animal health and welfare. This week we are celebrating our Veterinary Technicians as well as our students in training.

We asked our Vet Tech instructor, Dr. Watson a couple of questions:

  • What attracted you to this field?

My love and devotion to animals.  I was fortunate to be brought up in a family where we always had pets and was taught to love and respect them. I am a people person with an outgoing personality and thought veterinary medicine would be my perfect fit.

  • What made you decide to teach?

After being in a clinical setting for over 30 years where I was training and teaching on a daily basis, I thought how exciting it would be to teach eager students wanting to make a career in veterinary nursing. I have the patience and passion to share my knowledge and hope I can make a difference in someone’s life.

  • What do you like best about teaching?

Being there for my students.  Watching them come in so inexperienced with the desire to learn, watching them grow in the field.

Getting text from my students when they put their first catheter in or get their first employed position in a veterinary hospital.  Having my students send me a photo and ask ” is this ok for my  interview?’ Realizing they have learned so much in our program and are putting those experiences to work in the field.  Graduation is always emotional, I am so proud of “my kids”.
