City College’s Paramedic Diploma (FlexMedic Pathway) prepares students for rewarding careers as Paramedics in the out-of-hospital emergency service industry, spanning both public and private sectors. Our unique program allows students the flexibility to pursue Fire Academy training externally, while enrolled in our comprehensive program.
This thoughtfully structured pathway divides the first term courses of the traditional Paramedic Diploma program to align seamlessly with the schedules and demands of South Florida Fire Academies. This ensures students a balance between commitments, allowing success in both realms.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates qualify to apply to sit for the National Registry exam.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must be 18 years or older prior to the orientation date
- Applicants are required to meet the Technical Standards for Admissions required for each program. They must be in good mental and physical health and void of any physical handicaps that may prohibit them to do their work. To view Technical Standards, click HERE
- Applicants must have completed a recognized high school or show proof of GED/High School Equivalency Diploma. If an applicant needs further information, they should contact the Admissions Department to determine their qualifications to enroll in a given program
- Applicants must have an EMT Diploma and possess National EMT Certification prior to the start of the 2nd term of this pathway
Applicants who have not previously completed an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program should consider the EMT Program available at City College
PROGRAM SCHEDULE AT CITY COLLEGE
- TERM 1: One online blended* course
- TERM 2: One-day per week commitment: consisting of didactic, lab and clinical course
- TERM 3-5: Traditional Paramedic Diploma Program schedule
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes! This pathway accommodates full-time as well as part-time enrollment in the Fire Academy.
Students who are enrolled simultaneously in Fire Academy will have more flexibility in their schedule and a less demanding work load in the first two terms of this pathway.
A student enrolled in the Paramedic Diploma (FlexMedic Pathway) must have their NREMT certification by the start of the second term.

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship is equivalent to 10% of the total tuition cost billed per term, terms 2 through 5
FLEXMEDIC SCHOLARSHIP
Students enrolled in the pathway are eligible to receive a $450 tuition scholarship in the first and second terms, totaling $900
FINANCIAL AID
Financial Aid is available to those who apply and qualify ONLY in terms 2-5, when a student is matriculated.
