Making Connections through Compassion

Today’s society has experienced a surge in the need for compassionate care and quality treatment for our senior citizens and those affected by substance abuse addictions. While both groups are very different, they share a growing demand for professional and qualified mental health care that helps to manage substance abuse addiction and leads to an improved overall quality of life.

For anyone who has witnessed an elderly loved one struggle with failing mental capacity, or had someone close to them suffer from addiction, the pain is real and the need for qualified mental health professionals – indisputable.

What You'll Learn

The Associate of Science in Mental Health Technology Program curriculum focuses on critical areas of mental health technology. Students receive specialized training in patient assessment and learn to identify the signs of mental incapacity and addiction.

You’ll work closely with experienced mental healthcare professionals learning the fundamentals of case management, addiction treatment, advocacy and more. During internships in real-world mental health settings, you’ll get first-hand experience that will help you acquire the essential knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective patient treatment.

Graduates of the program are eligible to take the mental health technician certification examination for psychiatric technicians offered by the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians. Graduates will also have completed partial requirements for a mental health technician certification called the Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) credential, which sets the standards for several levels of certification for addiction professionals in Florida.
