Launch your exciting career as an Anesthesia Technician at City College!
An Anesthesia Technician (AT) is a trained medical professional who assists anesthesiologists in a range of important tasks. With the aging of our population and the shortage of trained anesthesia technologists and other anesthesia personnel, there are many exciting job opportunities in this field.
Your associate degree will provide you with the extensive knowledge and training necessary to work under an anesthesiologist, as a vital member of the anesthesia care team, typically in an emergency, operating or delivery room.
And since City College’s Anesthesia Technology program is one of very few approved by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians, your classroom experience is combined with clinical instruction for a well-rounded curriculum based on the ASATT‘s strict standards and guidelines.
City College’s Anesthesia Technician Program combines classroom lectures, demonstrations with clinical instruction, and hands-on practice on state-of-the-art equipment mimicking a real surgical suite.
As a student in the Associate of Science degree in Anesthesia Technology program, you’ll gain expertise in how to accurately assist the Anesthesia Care Team. You’ll get a strong foundation in setting up medical equipment and instruments as they relate to anesthetic procedures, the role of medical ethics, the basics of pharmacology, details of surgical procedures, and how to correctly assist with positioning the surgical patient and/or transport patients.
At City College’s anesthesia technology school, you’ll also get experience in washing and sterilizing re-usable equipment and reporting malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
As a student in the Anesthesia Technician Program, you’ll learn:
- The basics of anatomy and physiology
- Anesthetic procedures and their role in surgery
- All about anesthesia instruments and medical equipment
