City College is Granted Prestigious Accreditation by Accrediting

Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)

Specialized Health Care Accreditation Illustrates City College’s Continuing Dedication

to Filling Florida’s Ongoing Shortage of Health Care Professionals

(Miami, FL/December, 2017) – With a focus on implementing its vision of “Our City – Serving Our Community” and its commitment to being a college focusing on health education, City College is pleased and proud to announce that it has achieved ABHES accreditation. ABHES has been a leader in health education accreditation for over 40 years. ABHES has been nationally recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a private, non-profit, independent accrediting agency since 1969.

City College is particularly proud to receive this accreditation as it illustrates the college’s ongoing dedication to meeting the increasing demands for trained healthcare workers in Florida.  Florida Health wrote, “Registered nurses were number one on the list, with approximately 7,100 annual job openings and an average hourly wage of $30.28. Coming in at number nine on the list was licensed practical nurses, with approximately 2,346 annual job openings and an average hourly wage of $20.13. Nurses are in high demand in Florida and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. In fact, registered nurses are the 15th fastest-growing bachelor’s degree level occupation in the United States with a projected growth rate of 13.09 percent by 2021”.

Ms. Esther Curry, President of City College, said, “ABHES has been at the forefront of advancing the quality of health education programs throughout the country. This new partnership will help us prepare countless quality healthcare workers for the future. We are honored to be recognized and accepted into the family by such a prestigious accrediting organization.”

ABHES accreditation enhances the quality of education and training, while promoting institutional and programmatic accountability through systematic and consistent program evaluation. ABHES accreditation serves to assure the quality of the programs it accredits, and assist in the improvement and development of the programs, all to ensure solid student outcomes which in turn assures quality health care workers and employees. This quality-determination is accomplished by rigorous and systematic evaluation based on valid standards.
