If so, the Mental Health career may be a good fit. Mental Health Technicians are paraprofessionals who help healthcare workers, social workers, and other professionals provide services to people in the fields of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, and social work.

Our Mental Health Technology career prepares students with the technical abilities, both written and verbal, for the mental health professions, as the focus moves from institutionalized rehabilitative services to developmental community-based services. Students will be prepared to assist psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals in assessment, referral, counseling, and recreational activities for patients/clients in residential and outpatient mental health care facilities.

Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for psychiatric technicians offered by the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians and will have completed partial requirement for the Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) credential as outlined in Florida statutes.

  • Mental Health Externship
As a Mental Health Technology major student, you will learn both written and verbal technical skills that will teach you the fundamentals of this profession and give you a strong foundation with which to begin to help the lives of others.
 
We maintain clinical affiliations with several hospitals and agencies in North Central Florida. Our students are assigned clinical externships to provide a well-rounded education.
