Launch your exciting career as an Anesthesia Technician at City College! With the aging of our population and the shortage of trained anesthesia technologists and other anesthesia personnel, there are many exciting job opportunities in this field. Your associate degree will provide you with the extensive knowledge and training necessary to work under an anesthesiologist as a vital member of the anesthesia care team, typically in an emergency, operating or delivery room. Classroom experience is combined with clinical instruction for a well-rounded curriculum based on the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) standards and guidelines.
As a student in the Associate of Science degree in Anesthesia Technology program, you’ll gain expertise in how to prepare, administer and monitor pain management to patients. You’ll get a strong foundation in setting up medical equipment and instruments as they relate to anesthetic procedures, the role of medical ethics, the basics of pharmacology, details of surgical procedures, and how to correctly position or transport patients. Anesthesia technology students learn how to immediately respond to all types of patient situations, interpret data from medical equipment, and determine correct dosages of anesthesia. At City College’s anesthesia technology school, you’ll also get experience in washing and sterilizing re-usable equipment and reporting malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
Upon completion of this program, students are eligible to take the anesthesia technician certification examination offered by The American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technician and become a Certified Anesthesia Technologist or Certified Anesthesia Technician.
